So it’s been 17 days since the site has been set up.

In these 17 days, I’ve also heard folks telling me that I shouldn’t reveal the actual URLs of sites as they will be de-indexed very quickly as soon as Google hears of it.

I heard that’s what happened to Brad Fallon’s wildly popular Wedding Favours site, which he showcased during the launch of Stompernet. And that was supposed to be a site that earned more than a million dollars a year.

Anyway, here’s the status of the site so far:

Looks pretty good eh? Especially considering the fact that it took me less than an hour, including learning time!

I could easily set up ten of these in a day, let their rankings grow, then come back in a month to sell them off. And I would probably have made a little bit off affiliate sales and Adsense clicks in the meantime.

Talk about turbo-charged website flipping.

*Update: I’m posting this one day after I wrote it, and Google seems to be eating up my pages at an alarming rate. Check it out.

Speed PPC Case Study Part 3

If you missed the previous parts of the Speed PPC Case Study, here they are:
Speed PPC Case Study Part 0
Speed PPC Case Study Part 1
Speed PPC Case Study Part 2

Looking back, I finished setting up the case study 7 days ago, on the 21st April.

I have about 10 keywords, which I transformed into 10 adgroups without breaking a sweat with Speed PPC. Yes, 10 adgroups with ONE keyword per adgroup, each having its broad, exact, and phrase counterparts. I thought this sort of adgroups only happened in fairy tales.

As you might recall, the MSN and Yahoo! versions of this campaign were also magically generated from Speed PPC all at one go.

I’m having problems with Yahoo! because they don’t allow you to import campaigns until you’ve spent more than $200 with them in clicks cost. I was slightly irritated at first, but they agreed to help my upload my campaigns for the first 1500 keywords so I guess I’ll stick with them.

Not like it takes too long to build up a $200 adspend.

But as of this point in time, I’ve only got the Google and MSN campaigns up, each with 10 keywords.

Here’s my adspend.

Erm, I believe Google doesn’t allow advertisers to show their stats? I hope this is fine? Anyway, I’m not spending $0.33 SGD per click, and have accumulated a total of $4.57 SGD, which is approximately equals to $2.69 USD on Google.

I’ve only had one pathetic click from MSN at $0.26 USD.

Notice the dismal number of clicks. The CTR is fine though. Not perfect, but fine, given the number of keywords I have, and the obscurity of the niche.

So I’ve spent a total of $2.95 USD and ~30 minutes on the campaign so far. (It took so long because I was learning Speed PPC and watching the video as I went along)

And I now have one sale from the campaign, 3 days ago.

commssions

For a profit of $24.26. Nothing to write home about, but it’s a profit of 822.37% return on investment nonetheless.

Also, take note that I’m not using a custom-made landing page for this; all I’m doing is direct-linking, which adds to the coolness of it all. I’ll let the campaign run abit more, and after my exams, when I have the mood, I’ll do a little bit of research and throw in more keywords, add in the Yahoo! component, and hope it starts making me consistent sales everyday.

Again, if you decide to get Speed PPC via my link, I’ll be there to help you set up your first campaign with it, and soon enough, you’ll be good enough to do it yourself.

Speed PPC Case Study Part 2

[If you missed Part 1 of the Speed PPC Case Study, it’s here.]

So I’ve finally got around to implementing Speed PPC to my current running campaign. I’m starting small, so basically I’m just making use of Speed PPC to generate the campaigns for Google, Yahoo! and MSN.

It was an almost complete cut and paste job from my previous small campaign, so it didn’t take much time at all. The campaign generation was a breeze. The uploading part proved abit challenging though..

Google: Being the platform I was most familiar with, I thought I would be able to import Speed PPC smoothly. Alas, I got abit confused there and had to refer to the video again for instructions from Speed PPC. But still, with that little bit of guidance, it was no sweat.

YSM: I got abit pissed here. Speed PPC seemed to generate the campaigns fine, but somehow I couldn’t find the import function in YSM. I did a few searches online and found people saying that you have to be using “Gold” level or something to have the import function disable. I just shot them an email today asking if this was true, and if it was, what kind of rule this was.

So yes, mission failure for YSM.

MSN: I thought MSN was going to be the most tedious of all three but surprisingly, the uploading process was really smooth as well.

So now, I’ve just got to wait and see if Yahoo! comes back to me with a favorable reply. And then I’ll post the stats for this campaign soon. But I wouldn’t be blogging much these 2 weeks because.. Sigh, exams are coming.

And anyway, I was exploring the Speed PPC forums today and was glad to see that there were people who really knew their stuff damn well. I learnt quite abit from there, and will be going in again to read carefully, the threads of all the experts present, and learn from their experience.

10 Day Cash Secret Case Study Part 2

Okay, so I’ve more or less completed all I need to do for the case study.

I decided not to put up a custom header due to lack of time. I’ve added the site to the 3WL network, and implemented two out of the 3 promotional techniques Neil talked about.

Namely, I created a Sitemap, added the sitemap to Google, and created an additional link from a free wordpress blog. I skipped the step for adding the RSS feed to the blog, but I couldn’t get the plugins to work, and I felt lazy.

A results-wise update.

It’s been 4 days since the blog was up, it’s already been indexed. I thought that was pretty good, considering the amount of effort I took to implement the steps, and the fun and sense of satisfaction involved :)

I have this devious plan to perhaps sell the site once it manages to get some good ranking or even pagerank, and the sale alone should be worth more than the purchase price already.

No idea if I’ll be able to get some adsense clicks or even affiliate sales though. If I do, I guess they’re just bonuses, and shouldn’t amount to too much money.

I’ll update you more on the results when I see something significant. So, as a tentative conclusion to the case study, here are some vital links.

Files under Case Studies | 5 Comments

Okay, so I finished setting up everything in less then an hour I suppose, including the time I used to rewatch some of the videos and understand some of the technical glitches.

I also spent some time to install Analytics and Adsense on it.

Here’s what it looks like for now.

Well I think it’s pretty cool. And it’s set to auto update every 5 minutes, so Google is supposed to love it.

What I plan to do to it next:

  1. Slap up a simple header
  2. Add 3 Way Links to it
  3. Use the 3 steps Neil has recommended to help drive traffic to the site.

I guess it’ll pretty much be autopilot after that. I’ll report back with the stats when I find anything cool.

Meanwhile, stay tuned :)

10 Day Cash Secret Case Study

I’m on a case-study-spree these days.

I want to concentrate on the SpeedPPC case study, but I’ve got 10 Day Cash for awhile already, and since the process takes less than an hour from start to finish, according to what Neil says, I decided to do this first instead.

Basically, the idea is to set up a wordpress blog, get a datafeed from a merchant, and traffic and sales will come following that. Because this datafeed is supposed to be fed to the blog slowly, it seems like it is being updated very regularly and thus will get high rankings.

I’ve already bought the domain name and have the feed ready. So the next step is just reviewing the videos and setting things up.

If you want to check it out before I commence on the case study, here you go: 10 Day Cash

Speed PPC Case Study Part 1

I really meant to have Part 1 ready before the 7-Day launch promotion ends.

Unfortunately, due to heavy work commitments and my usual goofing off, I’m now doing part 1 with the launch promotion ending in a few hours time. If you’re wondering what the promotion is all about, check out the table of comparisons here:

speedppccomparison.gif

If it manages to do all it promises, $497 isn’t expensive at all. Or if you’re really tight, the $397 would do too.

Okay, so what I’m going to do in this case study is this. I’m going to take one of my previous profitable campaigns, and recreate a campaign for it using SpeedPPC. I’ve taken the campaign down for awhile because I wanted to do a major overhaul; SpeedPPC came out at just the right timing.

So, here’s a screenshot of my spendings for this campaign:

blast-spendings.jpg
Total of $103.59 SGD, which is about $60 USD

And my earnings..

blast-earnings.jpg
A total of $171.45.

For a profit of $111.45, and an ROI of 185%. Nothing to write home about, but much space for improvement.I’m going to recreate this campaign from scratch, and assign one keyword per adgroup, which SpeedPPC is supposed to be able to do.

I’ll then sign up for Yahoo! and MSN and then use the campaigns generated from SpeedPPC and just plaster them in.

And then we’ll just sit back, relax and see what happens. Since SpeedPPC places a great emphasis on speed, I’ll try to take note how much time I spend on each activity as well.

I hope you’re looking forward to this :)

Niche Site Case Study Week 4 - The End

It’s now week 4 of the case study.

I have originally intended to make this little experiment last for about 6 weeks, but I did a quick evaluation of the statistics, reviewed my strategies, and realize that there isn’t much of a point carrying on with this experiment.

It might take abit more time and tweaks to make this site achieve its $1 per day goal, which I thought was a fairly easy goal to hit for.

I think there is a very important lesson from this case study; so important that we can stop right here and we will already have learnt alot.

What is the main reason that this case study didn’t fail to hit my goal?

Lack of RESEARCH.

Duh, right? If you think you’ve heard this all before, hear me out.

The most critical mistake I made was this: I took the gist of the content right out of Content Goldmine, and simply assumed that since the niche and articles were well-researched, it will work with any business model.

Wrong. Dead wrong.

Does this mean that Content Goldmine is an inferior membership site? Far from it; it’s excellent.

What could proper research have done for me?

  • If I checked out the average cost per click for adsense ads, I would probably have chosen to do away with adsense as the core business model of the site.
  • The site is too niched; I am getting laser-targeted hits from search engines; all my visitors are probably indeed looking for content I have to offer. The thing is, the number of visitors is simply too low for the business model I have chosen.
  • My keyword research wasn’t done carefully. I should have targeted a broader, but yet manageably competitive term to optimize for, for the search engines. Instead, I chose a very niched keyword which I indeed was able to do well for, but the search count was simply too low. 3 Way Links did provide the site with many valuable links, but I used a different anchor text from what I was originally targeting. This resulted in a diffusion of methods, and I didn’t manage to rank as well as I could have, simply because the content wasn’t targeted to the correct crowd.
  • In summary, in this past 4 weeks, the site has netted me a grand total of $1.35 from Adsense. The affiliate products weren’t a good fit for the site, because I couldn’t find any on Clickbank that is niched enough to obtain a good match.

Again, poor research. I’ll probably add some CPA ads to the site to aid in the monetization. I should probably remove Adsense ads because the payout from the clicks are way too low.

    Okay!

I hope you learnt some stuff from this case study, even though it didn’t turn out to be as successful as I envisioned. There were many lessons to be learnt though!

My better half and I thoroughly enjoyed doing this case study though; it was good insight for her. She finally knows what I’ve been doing in front of the laptop all the time.

In the spirit of giving, and to thank you for supporting the case study..

If you’re interested in looking at the actual niche site to further aid you in your education, just drop me a personal email, and I will reply you with the URL. You can find my email address at the sidebar, in my bio.

Hope you enjoyed this first case study! More to come for sure.

Do drop me some feedback as to how I can improve the case studies I do in future!

Niche Site Case Study Week 3

It’s been 3 weeks since this case study started.

    Here’s a brief recap.

Week 1: Posted 5 articles on the blog, and then submitted one article to EzineArticles. Once the article is approved, it is then submitted to Goarticles.com and then posted on the blog.

Week 2: About 5 articles have been submitted. Stopped all activity because at this point of time I wanted to add the site to 3 Way Links to demonstrate the power of it.

Week 3: This was quite a passive week. We stopped almost all activity on article submissions and just wanted to get our site onto 3 Way Links as soon as possible. Unfortunately, an upgrade was being done to the server and I couldn’t get my account going. We submitted the site right after 3 Way Links came back online, and we got approval in a day; very efficient.

Here’s a summary of our traffic stats.

    52.90% Direct Traffic
    34.19% Referring Sites
    12.90% Search Engines

Of course, direct traffic mainly came from me and the better half as we edited the sites, added posts and made changes to it in general.

34.19% came from our article submission efforts at Ezinearticles.

12.90% came to out site while searching for resources on our niche. However, because ours is quite an obscure niche, our traffic was on the low site.

Earnings-wise, we’re still far from our aim of a consistent $1 per day; we’re getting the hits, but not the clicks. The affiliate programs aren’t converting as well.

So far we’ve mainly had $0 days, and peaked at $0.46 cents, with a total of 3 clicks.

Up until now, things aren’t looking very positive, but maybe 3 Way Links still needs some time to take effect. Afterall, we’ve only been on the network for about a week.

CY provided some useful information about article marketing to me that I’d like to share with you as well.

    1. Don’t write a summary of your article in the article body. Instead, include the summary in your bio box.
    2. Write a Part 1 article, then link to part 2 article from your bio box.
    3. Write a how-to article, then link to a presell page where you presell a tool that can automate the how-to process you mention in article.
    4. Write a product review, then link to a page from your bio box, where you offer extra bonus and discount if they purchase via your affiliate links.

If you have any comments/ideas at all, do not hesitate to drop me a comment!

Niche Site Case Study Week 2

    How time flies!

We’re now in week 2 of the case study.

We’re starting to get visitors from the search engines. 6 today, to be exact.

Traffic from ezinearticles are still coming in, even though it’s been about 3 days since we last submitted.

As described in the original post, we’re now at the stage of witnessing the power of 3 way links.

Unfortunately, 3 Way Links has been down for the past few days, so we’re experiencing some lag time here. It’s been fully functional as of today, and our site should be accepted by tomorrow.

Earnings-wise, things haven’t been very pretty either. Mostly zeros, and some 1 cent/4 cent days.

    And yup, no affiliate sales.

We’ll see how things go when 3 Way Links comes into the picture.
